Dungeons & Dragons Revisited |
A blog of rediscovery as we return to Dungeons & Dragons. |
I don’t know if it began with the reading the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe when I was a kid, or maybe the Hobbit, but at some point when I was a young boy I got hooked on fantasy novels. This was back in the mid to late 1980’s, about 20 years ago.
I got into a routine of literally consuming fantasy novels. Reading and occasionally re-reading them time and time again. An older cousin of mine passed on an old copy of Dungeons & Dragons for me to try out. The box included some rule books, some funny-looking dice and some strange maps. I was hooked.
I updated to the latest version of Dungeons & Dragons as soon as I could. I played right up till my late teens, when finally college and work got the better of me and D&D faded away.
Recently as we have gotten older (thirties) and for the most part settled down we were looking for alternatives to going out every weekend to get trashed. One of my best friends suggested we run a D&D campaign, and we agreed it was an awesome idea.
Now we play a semi-regular game (working on being more regular) and we are in the thick of it with Paladins, Clerics, Drow, Elves, Dwarfs, Rangers, Dragons and Demons and of course, Dungeons.
It’s as much fun as I remember.
Roll a d20 for initiative ….
